I'll be missing you, Spave.
We're going to Chicago next week.
The Owl will miss his nest.
He'll try to fly home from time to time.
(Just in case you give a hoot.)

The most amazing gift...
...just showed up in my car.
19 wonderful trax.
I hope you all get to hear them.
Thank you my lovely Spinny.
I remember when you were
in Oregon and we used to
do this every day. We didn't
have any company then did we?
It's nice to be able to share.

Hey Inquiry
I just want to know what kind of browser everyone is using. Currently, I am using Firefox, and I have figured out how to make an icon for our blog, but only on Firefox. I would like to know what browsers I need to find the code for so I can get it up for everyone to see, I'm rather proud of what I have done thus far. I would like to persue it a little further.
Fun with photoshop anyone?
Here is what I did... I posted the original pic on HERE ON SWEETNOODLE too, you can go there and get it. I would recommend sizing it down though, I usually set my blog pics at 400 pixels wide.
enjoy, hope you have as much fun as I did.

looks harder than it is
Ok… when you go to post, click on the “edit html” option. (It should say “edit html” and “compose”) then paste the following bit of code in there.
<a href="http://www.sweetnoodle.com/blog/audio/herecomesthesun.mp3">
<img src="http://www.sweetnoodle.com/blog/audioimage.gif"></a>
The first line is where you are linking to, your url, or hyper reference. The second line is the image I made. You won’t have to edit it at all.
I think that if you look at the first line you will be able to see what to change… to put your song in change where it says “yoursongnamehere”:
http://www.sweetnoodle.com/blog/audio/yoursongnamehere.mp3
Got it? Too much? You’re a smart guy… you’ll get it.
Good luck

A post for D
Hey, it's Chop bloggin' on Spinny's comp because I'm getting a number of errors from mine. I have a problem, and I would like some sage advice of fellow bloggians to hopefully see my direction.
So I auditioned for the playhouse a while ago and I didn't make it. No problem, always next year. Last night, I am down at the bar and I am asked if I would still like to work up there, at the snack bar and doing some general tech. I got very excited and inquired more. I could work up there and get the whole experience, but I would have to live up there and work quite a bit, thus negating all the plans I had made after finding out that I wasn't going to work up there. There is also an issue of my job. Mom is somewhat hesitant to see me go off, espically after I just started and got into the groove of things here. There is a possiblity of me getting replaced after I go. I don't know what to do. Please help me.
Confused D (posin as B)

A fun and exciting Experiment
I went on the toads site and he had an email that said
" what songs you would put on your Ipod if you were going to be stranded on an island for the rest of your life?"
I want to see what songs everyone would have on there ipods... Lets limit it to top 10. Who knows, I see a hell of a compilation CD makin its way out of this one.

Hey, I'm just puttin' up a post to see if we have gotten anything figured out on when we want to do the Wine Cellar gig. I would also like to inquire about the date of the gig at the Lead Opera House. Just a couple of questions. Thanks

Does anyone need any green growing buddies? My gardens are sprouting babies a plenty, echinacea, black-eyed susans, yarrow, daisys, butterfly dianthus etc.

1. Jerome Robbins
2. Natalie Wood
3. Rita Mareno
4. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In the play Juliet kills herself after realizing that Romeo took his life because he originally thought Juliet drank poison. In WSS, Tony is shot. Maria picks up the gun and threatens to take her life as well as other gang members. She, however, does not. This is the biggest difference.
5. Stephen Sondheim

Ok, it's working.
As per the previous post,
I flew over to Toad's website.
He has some ok stuff on there.
Probably a good enough guy.
I wonder if he'll go Owl hunting
though after I left that little dropping
on his site.
I just figured I'd do as JFK's dad,
Joe Kennedy, used to advise his
kids to do. Don't get mad,
get even.
"Turnabout is fair play."
Keep an eye out for a torqued off
little amphibian from Chi-town.
BTW, judging from his content
I'd guess he was doing a search
for stuff about Conservatives and
maybe the Pope and we popped up.
That's what we get for talkin' politics.
Everybody wants to show up, take a
peek, and put in their two cents worth.

A lovely evening indeed
I had a great time last night. I was just noticing that all but 3 of the members of this blog were at my house last night. I felt that the creative spave we all fell into was a great spave to be in. Thank all of you for coming and the rest of you were there in spirit.
My spellcheck wants to change "spave" to "spoof"... kind of fitting don't you think?
Love the new Blogname
Pop Quiz for Blogistas:
Who sang this song?
What is the title of it?
What movie is it from?
What is Sir's job?
Who is the actor who played Sir?
Who is Sri?
Has Jeni Fleming ever sung this song?
Will she? ....please? ...pretty please?
_______________
And, for extra credit:
How do you thank someone who has
taken you from crayons to perfume?

How do those people get in here?
I thought you had to have an invite
and sign up to get on this blog.
I thought I had to. Did that change?
I don't really care, I guess.
Just curious. Are they hacking in
or is this an open spave?

Sonnet for friend...
'Tis a wonderous morn that wakens the maid,
For rays of joy warms the restless nightshade;
Away fair moon! Your past weighs heavy trod
My eyes and mem'ries fade the precious fraud.
Shine fast the glorious fire of present day
To brighten all seekers of glee today.
Run free, seek fast, to capture what is ours
In light of now, in right of how the hours;
Be your sweet, sullied frame and thoughtful face,
Time rings true for this day a happy place.
A day of birth for celebration, friend,
Upon the trumpet beams a music end.
Happy Birthday!

Pleased
I would just like to note how glad I am that some of our wanderers have found their ways back to this wonderful (though sometimes teerible) Spave. Flick, Al and Eeks, I'm very glad to see you back.
I would also like to note that I rather enjoy the fact that the link to make a new post is "Create" instead of "New" or "New Post". It makes me feel....... Creative.
That's all.

West Side Story
So, here it is - the midterm of the fourth quarter of my first year back in the classroom. It is spring, and it is raining (almost snowing) here in the hills and it has been for three solid days. The ground loves, I love it...the students, however, are less than thrilled. However, it is keeping them inside and in class. What's more is that my drama classes have been studying WSS for three weeks now. This great American musical has lead to discussions of social class, racial tension, immigration, love, hate, war, gangs, and music - everything that would make The Bard proud. We are even studying the score - thank goodness for Leonard Bernstein! My kids are taking the test over the entire unit right now while the soundtrack plays softly in the background.
Here is where this gets fun. Exciting "West Side Story" trivia!
1. Who directed and choreographed both the Broadway musical and the film version?
2. Who starred as Maria in the film, but did not sing the role of Maria?
3. Which actress in "West Side Story" has been the only woman to have won all four major awards - Tony, Emmy, Grammy and Oscar?
4. What classic piece of literature is "West Side Story" based? And what is the most recognizable difference between its main character at the end?
5. Who wrote the lyrics for the songs in "West Side Story"? HINT: He went on to write many Tony award winning musicals on his own, such as "A Little Night Music" and "Sweeny Todd".
*Extra Credit: What famous retail company used a series of "West Side Story" dance scenes to help sell their products in 2000 and 2001?
OKAY - no cheating, have fun, and good luck. The correct answers will be posted on Monday, April 25, 2005!

Protect Your Eyes
Do yourself a favor and take this simple vision test.
It's an early test for cataracts.
It is simple to do and it's fun.
Remember, cataracts know no age
boundary; young and old can have this "preventable" eye disease.
When you've finished, send this on to those you care about! .
Anyone can have CATARACTS!!!

This morning i was making Anna breakfast and she hopped up to the table. There was a ring of milk on the table, left by the bottom of a cereal bowl. Anna pointed at it rapidly and said “Look. The moon, the moon, the moon…. or maybe a fish.”

Call to Left Arms
This is an email asking permission from everyone on this blog to recieve a newsletter informing all as to when the journal has a survey much like the one that Spinny posted earlier. It is our opinion here at the owl shop, that these polls don't rightly reflect the artistic views expressed here every day. We need organization and this is the first step in obtaining it. I would also like to request that anyone who knows anyone who would like to be contacted about said surveys send that email in as well. Let's give ourselves a voice instead of looking to someone in a high power position to have it for us. The voices of the many can not always be expressed by one.

New Dahl Post
I put some more stuff on the Dahl
post below to try to keepall the info
together in one spot. If it gets longer,
I suppose we can cut and paste
to bring it all forward, huh?
It would be nice to have
another way to batch these topics
other than by linear, date order.
Do they have any options for that?

Let us talk about the Dahl Shall we.
i have not talked to anyone in the theater about it since i spoke with Mikal right after they decided to split. but we have a client who was on the 2012 board and had some interesting comments. He stated that they gave the money to the theater rather than the dahl simply because the dollar amount was lower.
Another comment from our office landlady was that she was distapointed that the arts community had not stayed together to support each other.
I dont know the polotics inside the circle but i too agree that it is not calm.

Bringing this forward ...
If you put this whole thing together, it's nice!
A poem for all of you:
(or ruminations of a dualistic soma)
(First aspect's assertion)
Be that as it may
When all things turn to dust
I will return to the sea
And no human thread shall bind me
The spirit takes what pleases her
Leaving the rest of me to wonder
What good did this vessel serve and
Who is the master of my mind?
(2nd aspect's challenge)
And thus, if all is dust
must needs thee to
a dusty sea flee?
Of this ken doth
perhaps thy mind's
Master posess?
Doth thee?
(Interlude)
There is a stone there,
That whoever kisses,
Oh, he never misses
To grow eloquent.
'Tis he may clamber
To a lady's chamber,
Or become a member
Of Parliament.
(First aspect's retort)
Through thy fingertips
though dost speek sooth
Yet understand you
I do not when
Use of a man's name
Enters in
Master, he may master
not be
I look to you and not the sea.
(2nd aspect's clarification)
Of this ken not I, nor dried up sea can speak.
Let thine own mind mend the logic leak.
The paradox doth not reside with Master,
but if all has come to dust, how shall thee
dried as a prune, return
to a sadly shrivled sea?
Perhaps then, it is Master only
Who is dust and thus become so lonely.

Quick insite
Yes, not only is she beautiful and of course smart, she is also a Fleming....................
I have a problem
Ok so here is the scenario. I have a client who is working on some sort of real estate deal. There are several other people working on this project with him and he needs a disc with many different images on it that they can all have. He brought the images to me which are some logos and some drawings of some houses. Also the disc will include a photograph of a family.
My Problem:
He wants the images to be on transparent backgrounds which in my knowledge would be saved as a transparent GIF. Easy enough, until he asked that all the images again be saved as a transparency with a outer glow on them. Also in my experience when ever you save an image with any effect that fades off of the outside of the image, it saves that as a solid white area. Is there any other way I could save the images to make that not happen? I though of saving them as tiffs, but I’m not sure that is a cross platform way to save things.
Please help

Food for thought
Since this is such a thoughtful group, here is something to noodle uponst (if your of the mind). The fellow over at http://www.typedown.com/external-01/news/yahoo-wordnews.php has created some sort of Yahoo API that results in showing the 'news' words of the day. The bigger the word, the more often it has appeared in the news. Try not to mind that the page is uglier than smushed worms. What it shows is rather profound. After you take a look at it head over to http://new-art.blogspot.com/ and read the April 2nd post.

Pix?
So, by my reckoning, everyone who
has been to this blog has also been
pictured, except for the following:
• Trewthinalliam
• Ethunk
(and technically)
•Bill Harlan
Is that it?
Do we have pix?
BTW, who is "Ethunk"
.... and is Eeks ever
going to say anything?
So much to ponder on a sunny day.

Review: ‘A Few Good Men' looks pretty good

RAPID CITY - The Black Hills Community Theatre production of "A Few Good Men" is a compelling drama about a wrongful death, a high-level coverup and a riveting military court-martial.
"A Few Good Men" opens with the cast standing at attention while the national anthem is played. Each actor is dressed in identical black trousers and black turtleneck. The only color throughout the entire production is the flag, illuminated behind a blue scrim curtain. At the end of the anthem, the cast marches off with military precision.
The action revolves around two Marines who are accused of murdering a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. They have admitted guilt, but Lt. Cmdr. Joanne Galloway (Jenn Greenwaldt) is convinced that the Marines are protecting someone. She manages to get the case reviewed. Lt. j.g. Daniel Kaffee (Anthony Deiss) and Lt. j.g. Sam Weinberg (Reese Kor) are assigned as defense lawyers.
Initially, the Marines are uncooperative with the lawyers. Reluctantly, they admit they were following orders to carry out a "Code Red," an unofficial act where physical punishment is meted out for minor breaches of military conduct.
Lt. Jonathon Kendrick (Justin Speck) orders Lance Cpl. Harold Dawson (Danny Jones) to teach Pfc. William Santiago (Robert Ellerbruck) a lesson about following the military chain of command.
During the "Code Red," Santiago has a rag stuffed in his mouth, which is then closed with duct tape. While Dawson and Pfc. Louden Downey (Dylan Fleming) shave Santiago's head, he collapses. A short time later, Santiago is pronounced dead, and the two Marines are arrested for murder.
The defense lawyers are stymied by Dawson and Downey's blind adherence to the Marine Code of Honor. The production raises a complex ethical issue: When a Marine dies at the hands of his fellow Marines who are following orders, who is accountable? The fundamental question is, who is really to blame — the ones who committed the crime or the ones who ordered it?
Director Mikal Kraklio makes a number of interesting artistic decisions about the presentation of "A Few Good Men."
Kraklio says, "You don't need sets, costumes, and props to have incredible theater." Costuming the entire cast in identical black clothing with all-black stage props gives an Orwellian mood to the production and places the focus solely on the actors and the script.
Deiss as Lt. j.g. Kaffee has a cocky charm one expects from a young defense lawyer. Yet Deiss lacks the smug haughtiness that his lines suggest. At times, Deiss struggles with a character whose arrogance is maturing into professionalism. By the crucial courtroom scene, Deiss gives an exceptional performance of a man with pride in his duty and a new commitment to justice.
Greenwaldt as Lt. Cmdr. Galloway is an idealistic hothead. Greenwaldt allows her character to annoy, badger and alienate everyone with whom she has contact. Yet her dedication to justice wins her the grudging respect of her peers.
Jones and Fleming, the two accused Marines, are proud that they are serving their country. They maintain their rigid Marine posture and shout their "Sir, yes sir!" with authentic military gusto.
Speck as Lt. Kendrick portrays a man with gung ho devotion to his commanding officer. Speck portrays a character who struggles to rationalize his blind obedience to orders.
Wayne Gilbert as the ambitious Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep gives a strong interpretation of the abuse of power. Gilbert sometimes understates his role when using intimidation to bully his subordinates. However, Gilbert is marvelous as a patronizing, glib "good old boy."
Jack Delaney is the exemplary Marine Capt. Markinson. Delaney shines as he allows his character to struggle with the conflicting demands of duty, loyalty and honor.
"A Few Good Men" is a study in the maxim: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." The cast convincingly portrays loyal soldiers caught in a conspiracy of power and a web of corruption.
The production is fast-paced and tense. The climactic courtroom scene between Lt. Col Jessep and Lt. Kaffee is drama at its best.
"A Few Good Men" opened on Broadway in 1989 and continues to provoke serious discussions. With the recent controversy surrounding the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, the script is a timely exploration of military obedience versus ethical actions.
Black Hills Community Theatre's production continues through April 17. Contact the BHCT Box Office at 394-1786 for reservations or additional information.

Nathan asked about the history of blogging earlier today. My mom wrote this article in April of 2003 we think. I thought it was neat that she was ahead of the times. Enjoy

Well it was inevitable that i would sucumb to the temptation that is the almighty blog once i had become privy to its immeasurable power. There was no way to avoid using the word blog in the title of my very first post. Yes by now i'm sure we all know that this is a blog and we are the bloggers or bloggetts. I may be the first to coin the feminine term but i'm not the first to be in awe of the unfathomable capabilities of a network that is still only a twinkle in papa bloggers eye. News and grassroots organization have already found a comfortable home in blogdom. Small community blogs such as the one i've made my humble appearance upon are the begginings of an age of free information provided directly by the grey matter of millions of deep thinkers. My vision takes the aspects of some of our greatest information sharing technology and conbines it with web crawling software capabable of making corellations between terms and phrases to allow an individual to release a world wide request for information which should be instantly answered by all previous postings pertaining to the thought and recieved by all users advertising interest or expertice in the area. Soon after its realease some topics would shoot to the top of this global information hierachy and become the pinnacle of human thought. Topics such as free energy sources, the meaning of life, conspiracies, britany spears, existence of aliens would instantly become so over discussed that a solution would have be reached. Concepts deemed too radical for our little childrens ears would raise a rebellion of information haters with no way of warping the conclusions of this global consensus so they would begin our worlds first electric book burning crusade which would undoubtedly result in the destruction of our infrastructure and dive us into an apocalypse of information followed by a supreme unity of those who retained the secrets of knowledge and the eventual demise of the ignorant. Unless of course this ultimate power ultimately corrupted the minds of the info gods and they began playing games with the unfortunate and thier innocent offspring without ever offering the choice of enlightenment. Thus repeating our pattern of history and hilighting our human flaws once again or somthing like that.

I have to interject the flow to talk about how impressed I was with Chop last night. I attended the dress rehearsal of A few Good Men last night. The show was very well done on all parts. Mikal's vision added a real unique interpretation, unlike anything I had seen on the community theater stage.
But our Little Dancin D did such a great job. It is his first main stage acting gig, and you couldn't tell at all. Poor little d got yelled at all night and he was so scared up there.
Oh and shall we talk about Mr. Speck. The Guy was terrifying. I hated having him be so evil. I love Justin and it was unfair to have to see him so evil. But much kudos to him for pulling that off so powerfully.
