Do you think they are good enough to win the contest poppa?

It depends on how well they are printed
and presented. I think you should enter them
and not worry about winning. Sometimes
the winning doesn't mean much compared
to the making and sharing of the beautiful art.

My little book didn't win anything, but I heard
from the curator in the Pierre gallery that
a lot of the kids thought it was the coolest
thing in the show.

I think it could win, depending on the judge.
But more importantly, it's good art and should
be experienced by many.

Remember, Steven Speilberg has only won
one Oscar.

Go get 'em Bon of Zye.

I do a teerible job of that.
You know that craft much better
than I do. The printing is the most
important part I think. Ben F. mattes
should work just fine. Print them either
very large or somewhat small.
Stay away from the predictable
8 x 10. That's my advice anyway.
Small prints with a big white mat.

The leaves shot is lovely. It's just that I feel
like I've seen that subject many times before.
The other shots seemed more original, like the
photographer was giving us a view of something
fresh and new, or at least from a new point of view.

But what the hell do I know?!

Nate's point about light is right on.

Sometimes designers get so caught up in
structure they forget about color, texture,
light, and shadow. (Especially color blind
designers like me!) But if you think about it,
that's all a photograph is. A record of the
reflected light.

A good shooter shoots as if they had
never heard of Photoshop. And they
get hacked when you suggest you can
"fix their picture up" in the computer.

I know...I've seen the looks they give me
when I suggest it. I don't know for sure
what they're thinking, but I think it might
be, "What a teerible crack you are!
...get out of my spave."

Good photographers rock!

I agree with the Photoshop comments. However growing up with it as a tool, makes me see it as, just that, a tool. It can help you to achieve a better end product. It’s the age old battle of old verses new. I know that the old ways of print media took skill in curning and type setting and color plates and what ever you "oldies" used to use. I know it’s admirable. I know it commands respect. But boy am I grateful for Photoshop.
Wow look at that, I just went off on a tangent.

I have the best family in the world. I love all of your advice and support.

I have to admit that the swan was the least favorite. But everyone went nuts with that one so I went ahead and submitted that one. But if it had been up to me, which I know it was, I would have gone with badlands (which by the way was a spectacular sight to see, let alone photograph) Chad on a mountain, and the leaves.
