Tirade on Blogmore

For those interested, there are a few sizzling hot scourgings of thise supporting SDHB1215 on the Mount.
...also input from a few folks you all know. I'll be disgusted if this bill makes it through. It is an abortion in its own right.

If the law passes, it will be challenged in the courts. That's the whole plan, to try to get all the way to the Supreme Court.

SD Citizens' options include a referendum. The people themselves can get a law taken off the books by circulating a petition and getting a referendum on the ballot.

That will probably happen, I can't imagine it wouldn't. If you want to fight, sign the petiton and go vote! Help them with their campaign. And yes, as Eric says, by all means, make art. And put it up everywhere.

By my count, there are only 4 judges, not 5 on the SCOTUS who would perhaps vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, but the two just appointed are going to have a lot of explaining to do id they vote that way, especially John Roberts.

I think the judges most likely to support HB1215 would be Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Roberts. Who is the other one you're thinking of, Eric?

Notice when you read HB1215 that it is completely legal for woman to give herself an abortion. I just can't imagine the SCOTUS upholding this law.

We missed you tonight Owl...just one tune from Leonard...no Owl croones, no Polyman harpin' or Harlan making the piano sing, Sue Hey...she hummed a bit but that was all...

To the topic, I say, Spin is on it. She will no only sign the petition, she will stand at the crowded corners and ask for signatures as well. We all need to stand by her side.

I have contacted planned parenthood and they put me in touch with a woman who is part of an organization here in rapid. I told them i was willing to do anything i could to help. I also contacted Kim at the Arts Anchor and she told me she would run an article if i wrote one.

also my other idea is that there are some legislatures who will only vote for this bill because they are afraid of what the church will do to them if they don’t. The only way I see to stop this thing for going through, is to take it nationally and propose a boycott of our state by those who see how obscene this whole matter is.

I plan on using some of the stuff from blogmore... there are some exellent points on there.

...all of this activism is making me tired.

It's the right thing to do Spin. And the women are the right ones to do it. Be careful though. These people you'll be fighting are mean as hell.

Why isnt this an issue that the people get to vote on? I mean, isnt it our rights, why do we get to put them in the hands of these people?

I guess i dont understand why we get to vote on somethings and why the state gets to make some of these decisions for us...

For the most part, we elect lefislatures to make laws.
Our voting for them implies that we trust them to make laws that we want and need.

We can make our own laws and vote them in by a process called "An initiated measure".

We can reject laws that have been passed by a process called "referendum." Those are the two protections citizens have to make laws the legislatures won't and to throw out ones they make that we don't like.

The best way to influence lawmakeers is to write, email, and call them when the legislature is in session. Tell them what you want and what you don't.

People do this a lot.

They even hire people to do it for them sometimes. Those people are called lobbyists.

People who do it without getting paid are sometimes called "advocates" or "activists."

That's what you seem to be doing right now, becoming an "activist."

Good for you Spin.

We need ya.

It was 7 to 2. Renquist and White dissenting. Kennedy wasn't on the court at the time. But the court has upheld Roe 35 times or so since then. That's why in the Roberts hearing they called it "Super Stare Decisis." Sounds like a dessert, huh?

Anyway, Kennedy voted to uphold Roe when it was reexamined in 1992 (Planned Parenthood vs Casey).
