Code Talkers Still At Work in 2005...
From his underground bunker, Saddam Hussein sent George W. Bush a letter in his own writing to announce that he is still in the game. Bush opened the letter and it containted a coded message:
370HSSV-0773H.
George W. couldn't figure it out so he e-mailed it to Colin Powell, who at the time was still the Secretary of State. Colin and his aides had no clue either, so they sent it to the CIA. No one could solve it, so it went to the NSA and then to MIT and NASA and the Secret Service....the list got longer and longer. Eventually they asked an elderly Navajo, Cecil Begay, one of the WWII Navajo Codetalkers.
Mr. Begay took one look at it and replied: "Tell the President he is looking at the message upside down".

If any of the flying rumors about the demise of Mr. Cheney are true, W is going to have to learn to do a whole lot more than read the message upside down.
Do you know Skogg, that in in other countries, the word "asshole" is not nearly so insulting as it is here in the US? I mean, I'm not sayin, babe, I'm just like sayin'....
Wouldn't it be fun, Ethunk, if Cheney was toast? Wyoming assholes, anyway. (God love 'em)
Here's the fun, who get the semi sordid, er, lofty postion of VP? Condi (black woman, semi pro abortion... probably not) McCain, Rudy Giuliani?
greedkm....hum?
The 25th Amendment to the Constitution states, "Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress."
Therefore, the selection would, quite possibly, be one of strategerie. Who would be a good President? Put them in the position of Vice President...Condi or McCain could beat Hillary, but quite honestly Condi probably wouldn't take it. She likes where she is and what she's doing.
McCain would be a good selection, but I wonder if he would want the association with the current administration.
I can't figure how I feel about Giuliani.
What if Bush appointed Skleeve?
I don't know if Hillary's the one to beat. Maybe it's Tom Daschle? Maybe they'll put Thune in as VP.?
Wow. That would be cool, huh. Like Rocky II.
...but different.
I don't think Daschle has kept enough of a public profile up since getting beat by Thune.
Compare him to, for example, Gore...who "suddenly" has a lot to say.
Gore is our secret president from a parallel universe, right next door, where things make sense.
Here in this universe, we elected him, but the Supreme Court refused to let him do the job.
Things are a whole lot different right now in that "other world". ...so close, and yet so far away.
The Supreme Court did not elect Gore.
Don't blame the Justices. Blame Florida.
Of course the SCOTUS didn't elect Gore, Scogg. The people did. SCOTUS appointed and annointed Georgie Jesus, while trashing Florida's people's and Courts' rights to make up their own minds.
No they didn't. Blame Florida.
The fact is that the election pointed out how craptacular many states run their voting booths/ballots/ systems, etc...
And this whole popular vote v. electoral vote...nothing new.
Do you want to know what I really think? The Court should have remanded to the Florida Supreme Court (which was suggested by Justice Breyer...who makes tasty ice cream). This would have been accepted more by a unanimous vote AND it would have spotlighted where the problem truly lies...with the Floridian Court. This would have also been more likely accepted by the American public who is, obviously, still fractured on Bush v. Gore.
However, remanding would have also shown that there was not enough time to do a recount between the day of the decision and December 18th (I could be off by a few days), which was the date Floridian law mandated for ballot contests to be completed.
Why was the contest period so short? Because the Floridian Court mandated so. Why wasn't there enough time? Because the Floridian Court waited to decide that a recount needed to occur. Why was the recount thrown out? Because the Floridian Court's system was not fair nor was it consistent.
So the Supreme Court, trying to protect the right to vote, ended up shouldering the blame for a crappy Floridian system.
And that's what I think.
So throw Floridas votes out. Gore wins. What's your point? If they can't get their act together, they can't vote. SCOTUS didn't protect anybody except Florida's Governors brother. (And their own conservative butts.)
Or would Bush have won without Florida? I don't remember. If he would have, I'll have to think of some other way to whine.
Cheers to having a lawyer on the blog! (sorry I spilled the blog beans all over the courtroom floor yesterday Skog)Your info and insites are definately noticed and appreciated.
As for Thune as VP, that's the most chilling Halloween scare so far this year.
Throw Florida's vote out? That would violate the Constitution, bra.
(notes that she expects to hear a "You know what else violated the Constitution?" reply from Owl)
And thank you for beginning to blame Florida, Owl.
No problem, Ethunk. Thank you for the compliments!! I'll let you know how the trial goes once it's over, but right now...it's hush hush.
Also, thank you for sensing that and not going into details as to why you were in the room with me.
Yeah, Skogg, you are good.
God knows, even David Bois couldn't
win for our side on that Florida thing.
We should have had you there, huh?
I'm still pissed about it,
(in case you hadn't noticed.)
You're still pissed about George W. becoming President of the United States? I did not know that...Captain Obvious.
...never shoulda happened.
I'm not gonna say it, Several of the SCOTUS judges already did. Hey, they, know, they know.
I think I recall that there have been several times when a state screwed up and didn't get their votes counted.
But I'm way too lazy to go and check.
It did hough, now look where we are.
...nothing worse than liberal whinnnnnning...But wait! Look out yonder, there is a new indictment dawining, a summom here, an arrest there. Tomorrow will be a better day.
I think conservative whining is much worse than liberal whining Ethink. Even when they run everything, they still whine.
Conservatives don't whine. They inform.
