Skleeve,
Please see a discussion Owl and I had a few days back on the blog regarding when a fetus becomes a human being, and if the fetus has rights under the Constitution.
There is a Supreme Court Justice up for review, Skleeve (Roberts) and nobody can tell where he's at on this.
Someone should ask him.
Also, there is a panel appointed by the SD Legislature to study just these issues.
Upshot? If fertilized eggs are found to be "human beings" every woman who uses an IUD or who takes birth control pills or the "morning after" pill will be considered a murderer or at a minimum an abortinist under state law, since these methods prevent fertilized eggs from attaching themselves to the uterine wall, and instead flush them out during mensis.
So too will all stem cell researchers who study embryonic stem cells be considered murders.
So to will people who use in vitro fertilization.
Heavy stuff happening in legislatures near you and yours.
It will be interesting to see where soon-to-be Justice Roberts stands on the issue.
It's hard to use prior briefs he wrote in support OR against him personally, as he was a Solicitor General, and therefore writing the opinion of George the First's administration.
The thing I like about Roberts is that, although conservative, he tends to be more level-headed than pig-headed. In that way, he is a lot like Sandra Day O'Connor...but without the wicked lace cravat.
Agree Skogg. Problem is (if you're a US Senator) how do you frame "the question" BEFORE you you give advice and consent? I want to think Roberts is ok to. So does he think fertilized are "human beings" or "nascent human beings" as Bill Frist said the other day.
That's perhaps another watchword... "nascent."
It makes all the difference.
Remove the "ent" and add "ar."
I think that's more what Frist, the Tennessean Senator, meant.
That's just perfect, Skogg.
Move to the head of the liberal class!
A+
By the way, Skogg, I'm stealing that.
Maybe I'll send you royalties?
Bernie will be calling you to set it all up.
I take 70%. That's the deal.
Talk to Bernie, Skogg. He's already in for 70%.
Somehow the math isn't workin' here.
(tsk...lawyers.)
Yeah. He gets 70% of your 30% and I get 70% of the entire thing.
So I get 70%, Bernie gets 21% and you get 9%.
Word.
Typical lawyers. I'll just work in cash and trade.
(No paper trail.) Catch you both later. (..#%*@ sharks)
