This is the guy who talked Mike Gould of Community theater into breaking away from the Dahl and the Arts Council. This is the guy who's running the Journey Museum board. This is the guy who gave big campaign checks to Mayor Shaw, Malcom Chappman and Shumacher. This is the guy who, when when he asked me to do an ad campaign against the Dahl, I told him to kiss my ass (nicely, of course.)
Doug Hamilton. Get him outta here.

He's also the guy who's twisting the Mayor and the city council's arm to bring another Walmart into town. He thinks we're all for sale. He's impossibly arrogant. I have had a few civil conversations with him, after I shouted him down a couple of times, but he really is a mean son of a bitch. He'll tell you that himself. Keep an eye on his court case. This will totally change the entrenched "good old boy" political network in Rapid City. As my good friend Graham Thatcher always says, "the universe has a special providence for assholes." Nice to know, huh?
... If you can even call him human.
Dot Duffy doesn't (call him human).
And how about his own lawyer!
Can you believe that?
He's like, "Yeah, Doug's kind of hard guy to get along with. He does things that other people wouldn't do, like zipping his pants down in front of them."
Some defense, huh?
...so how does John Brewer fit into this picture?
It appears that his attorney's strategy is to set up for the jury that they probably won't like Doug, but that doesn't mean he's violated the law.
The unzip is harassment if there's an intent there.
I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
Uncomfortably, I assume, Ethunk.
As far as I know, John still works for Doug. John and I had a lot of conversations about Doug, both to his face and othewise.
The thing about Doug is that he knows he acts like a jerk. John was constantly trying to get him to cool his jets and act nice, but Doug just couldn't seem to get the hang of it.
I think John was trying to "fix" him, and for a while was asking me if maybe I could help, especially on the Arts stuff.
Last time I talked to Doug, he wanted me to help with Shumacher's campaign and wanted to know where I was at "on all this Walmart bulls**t."
I told him I was working for Jean French and he about croaked, pointing out how crazy and pro-life she was. I said, well there ya go, Doug. See how crazy I am about Walmart?" Strange bedfellows indeed, huh? Anyway, French lost (she wouldn't listen to a thing we told her to do... go figure) and now I see her cheerleading for HB1215.
Politics, politics.
Who can keep up?
Anyway, that's the last time Doug ever called me.
Haven't heard from Brewer either.
