I was called away from work to go stand on the porch. I had heard the season’s first crack of thunder and saw the drops of rain earlier from my desk. I knew why I was being called outside. The air was till warm from the day. I stepped outside and filled my lungs with the smell of the rain.

There are a few things that really mark the arrival of spring; the sound of birds chirping though your open window in the morning, the smell of cutting that new spring grass, and the smell of the springtime thunderstorm rain. All of these things I experienced today.

The sun is out now, and the birds are splashing in the newly made puddles. Everything is clean and refreshed.

Happy Spring Everyone!

Even though it is not just spring (that happens in late March)..

in Just-
spring when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman

whistles far and wee

and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it's
spring

when the world is puddle-wonderful

the queer
old balloonman whistles
far and wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing

from hop-scotch and jump-rope and

it's
spring
and
the

goat-footed

balloonMan whistles
far
and
wee

e.e. cummings
